Art Gallery 1 Exhibit: "Grit," by Autumn Simmons

This exhibit will be on display in Gallery 1 at the end of the Mann Family Skybridge through December 15, 2017.

Artist's statement: Grit is defined as perseverance and passion for long term goals: firmness of mind or spirit: and unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger. These characteristics are imperative to women in order to thrive in our world. This collection pays homage to all the fierce women, who have grit and work tirelessly thrive in the face of adversity. In my work, these themes are depicted through the use of bright color, botanical motifs, female figures, and geometric design. I want my audience to see my work as a celebration of all of us women, while still speaking to the struggles and inequalities that we face.
